Sizzling Sensations

6 RED HOT BARBIE TIPS

Put the sizzle in your next barbecue with these helpful hints from Sunbeam

  1. The grilling surface must be clean. Food sticks to any food particles remaining rather than the hot metal plate. Clean the grill and oil it before cooking.
  2. If you’re using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least an hour beforehand. This helps prevent them burning. Alternatively you can use metal ones.
  3. Don’t overload your barbecue with food. This lowers the temperature of the flat plate so that the food boils instead of searing, resulting in tough meat with a stewed flavour.
  4. If you’re cooking a variety of foods at the same time, we recommend you put it on the barbecue in stages. Thicker pieces, such as steaks and sausages, should be done first. Thinner and fast-cooking items such as fish and vegetables should be added later.
  5.  If grilling bread on the barbecue, spray or brush it with oil and cook it just before you serve it.
  6. Some cuts of beef and lamb may require browning on a high heat before roasting as his seals in the flavours and juices of the meat. However, marinated meat doesn’t need it.

TOP TIP

After the meat is cooked, cover it loosely with foil and let it rest for at least 10 minutes.

GEOFF JANSZ’S FAVOURITE BARBECUE RECIPE

Give the classic barbecue menu an original twist with this fantastic seafood recipe from popular TV chef Geoff Jansz: BARBECUE CHILLI LIME PRAWNS

TIP

Here’s a practical hint for cooks who want to save money and add an extra dash of flavour.

Use a bunch of rosemary or any other stalky herb tied with string as a pastry brush. Simply dip the herbs in oil, shake off the surplus gently and brush it over the grill plates. This stops your pastry brush melting.

THE MORE THE MERRIER

Barbecues aren’t just a way to cook a delicious meal – they’re a wonderful opportunity to entertain. So spoil your guests (and yourself!) with the latest in stylish serving ware and accessories, treat the chef to the finest tools of the trade and get set to transform a ho-hum backyard picnic into the ultimate summer banquet.
